We are responsible for the entire range of children’s education, health and social care services in all three boroughs. We use a Signs of Safety practice model and approach which ensures the voice of the child is at the heart of everything we do. This post sits within the School Improvement Team, under Education Services. The main office base is in central Kingston. Our team is locally known as the School Performance Alliance for Richmond and Kingston or SPA[RK] and you can find out more here

About the role

The role of Senior School Improvement Advisers (SSIAs) is to be the School Improvement Partner for an allocated group of schools. SSIAs are expected to establish excellent working relationships with school leaders and exercise their functions as equal professionals in the school improvement process. The role will provide schools with support and robust external challenge. This will include evidence based assessment of performance in line with the current Ofsted framework to identify strengths and areas for further improvement. Post holders will:

- write reports to Governors, which are updated termly and provide a commentary on the school’s performance, evaluation of improvement and recommended next steps
- deal with contentious situations, demonstrating highly developed skills and professional judgment
- advise governors on the appointment of a new headteacher, headteacher performance management (when requested) and occasionally attend governors meetings

The post holder is also expected to take responsibility for a strategic area within school improvement across the service.

You will have experience of
- Successful leadership within a school or school improvement organisation
- Building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges

- Strong organisational abilities, working flexibly and independently
- Personal determination, drive, energy and ambition to achieve excellent outcomes for children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
