This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered clinician to join the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust's digital team as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO).

As a CSO you will have a vital role in ensuring digital transformation is undertaken as safely and effectively as possible. To succeed in this role you will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, in order to promote the role of clinical safety across cross-functional teams. You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary digital clinical team and be supported by a Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) and Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO).

The role would suit clinicians with a well-developed understanding of the acute care setting and of the impact of healthcare IT systems within this setting. Prior experience implementing health IT systems or working as a CSO are highly desirable.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that safety is maintained throughout the lifecycle of the upcoming digital transformation projects, in order to support the Trust’s digital roadmap. In doing so, the Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) will ensure the Trust is compliant with the NHS clinical risk management DCB0160 standard - deployment and use of health IT systems.

The post holder will carry out clinical risk management activities, including the identification, assessment and mitigation of clinical risks during system implementation, modification or decommissioning. These activities will be undertaken in a structured manner and result in the output of clinical safety documentation, which the post holder will be responsible for maintaining.

- The CSO will be responsible for ensuring the Trust is adherent to the DCB0160 clinical risk management standard
- Hold suppliers to account for adherence to the DCB0129 clinical risk management standard
- Lead the clinical risk management process throughout the deployment, use, maintenance and decommissioning of health IT system
- Refine and improve the clinical risk management process, to ensure patient safety is maintained during periods of significant digital transformation
- Coach IT teams in the steps necessary for DCB0160 compliance, in order to help strengthen the patient safety culture
- Communicate effectively with key stakeholders, including:
1. Clinicians, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals
2. Service managers and general managers
3. IT teams, including system administrators, testers, trainers, project managers and the clinical digital team
4. Patient safety team
5. Health IT system suppliers
