**WHAT YOULL DO**: To be actively involved in the care of all children within the Southampton Childrens Hospital and any other departments where children are managed. In conjunction with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ACP) you will assist in managing a patient caseload within agreed medical / nursing protocols, co-ordinate programmes of care working in partnership with other professionals and referring patients to other specialties or practitioners as required. Once competence is achieved you will assess and identify medical, health and psychosocial needs of individual patients, in partnership with clinicians, nursing staff, patients and carers you will plan programmes of care to meet these needs. Synthesise coherently and effectively, knowledge and expertise related to the specific area of practice and learn to provide professional leadership within the specialty and organisation.
Identify gaps in evidence and / or practice knowledge that require resolution through research, and assist the multi professional team in research activities as appropriate. WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR: This is a 12 month secondment post, to backfill maternity leave of existing outreach practitioners. Applicants will need the ability to work as follows: Currently working in an acute clinical environment with the ability to clearly demonstrate knowledge & skills in clinical assessment & decision making. Flexibility to meet the diverse clinical needs of children in a variety of settings eg, Critical care areas, general paediatric wards, areas outside CH domain eg.
Childrens Emergency Dept & any other area where children may be managed. Ability to use initiative. Ability to work autonomously undertaking extended roles (where applicable). Ability to work well within a team.
Motivated, assertive, dynamic, enthusiastic. Flexibility to work all shifts including unsocial hours. ABOUT THE TEAM: A service dedicated to the recognition & management of the acutely unwell child & support to the multi professional team to facilitate safe, effective & efficient collaborative clinical practice. The team currently consists of trained & trainee Paediatric Advanced Practitioners who are supported by a Lead Band 8a & lead Paediatric Consultant.
All practitioners are currently undertaking the level 7 Advanced Nurse practitioner (ANP) MSc pathway following either an modular or apprenticeship framework. Ongoing education & training of the team is a daily activity & is fully supported by bespoke monthly education days to enhance clinical skills & practice. The role is also supported by a competency framework to develop clinical skills & competence.
