Mental Health Practitioner

This is an exciting opportunity to work in Children's and Young Peoples (CYP) Mental Health sector. You will play an important part in a forward-thinking service delivering interventions into schools within the Wigan area as part of the mental health support team.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering interventions within a new Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in identified schools and colleges and for the supervision of Education Mental Health Practitioners within the team.
The post-holder will be have completed the HEE Postgraduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice or Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Wellbeing Practice for children and young people; and have previous consolidated post graduate experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health issues.
In addition, you will have extensive experience of delivering evidenced-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural problems to CYP both individually and in groups.
Delivering consultation to school staff in education settings. To
assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions that are agreed
with the child and caregiver in accordance with best practice.
To ensure comprehensive risk assessment of children, young people
and families and that risk management plans are in place and
documented.
To develop and review whole school mental health initiatives
alongside young people, school staff, senior leads and parents.
To provide 1:1 brief intervention for mild to moderate mental health
problems.
To provide low level intervention including behavioural activation,
CBT informed worry and anxiety management interventions, graded
exposure, sleep and stress management, behavioural experiments.
To evaluate the success of intervention at regular intervals using
Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS)
To liaise with schools and other agencies in terms of information
gathering and sharing.
To offer parent consultation, support and advice and parent led CBT
approaches.
To inform local child protection co-ordinator and senior clinicians of
any concerns regarding protection issues.
To gain feedback on experience through session rating scales,
experience of service questionnaires.
To see families/children in the setting most appropriate for effective
and efficient care.
Supervising the clinical practice of Education mental health practitioners.

The MHST Mental Health Practitioner Supervisor will be responsible for delivering interventions within Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in schools and colleges, whilst receiving clinical supervision and be expected to work in schools closely with school staff to support CYP, their families and staff to foster a whole school approach to mental well-being.
The MHST Mental Health Practitioner will play a key role in
- Forming strong working relations with a variety of stakeholders
- Providing consultations to education colleagues and support education setting to embed a whole school approach to wellbeing
- Developing and delivering evidence-based individual and group time limited interventions to young people within education settings
- Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service
- Providing clinical supervision to trainee Education Mental Health practitioners
The Mental Health Practitioner in the Mental Health Support Team will provide day to day clinical and supervisory support for the Education Mental Health Practitioners and Trainees (EMHP)
