**THE ROLE - WHAT YOU’LL DO**
The Assistant Conservation & Engagement Ranger is a 9-month funded placement opportunity for the chance to gain experience working alongside our Smithills Estate team including the site communications and engagement teams. The role will help deliver nature recovery at the landscape scale in an upland/urban fringe setting, engaging and benefitting the local community.

The types of activities you might be involved in include:

- Support the Engaging Communities Officer in delivering events, guided walks, workshops, and task days for local community groups and volunteers.
- Helping us build on our youth activity
- Working closely with the Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager, and volunteers on practical tasks across the site from woodland creation to restoration.
- You will also assist the events and communications officer in creating content for our three social media channels
- The chance to bring your own ideas and perspectives to the placement

This is a site-based role at Smithills, Bolton. The role will have a dedicated desk space and all necessary equipment.

**WHAT YOU’LL LEARN**
- Introduction to Communications and Engagement, undertake guided walk leader training, volunteer leader training and learn how to carry out risk assessments for events and activities
- Introduction to woodland management, learning practical skills and core principles

**Additional Requirements**:

- You’ll be aged between 18 - 24 years old
- You’ll be based near our Smithills Estate
- You must be able to start employment with us before 17th May
- You must be out of employment, education and training
- You must be willing to undergo a DBS check
