Doctor Assistant

The Site Support Services are looking to recruit four Doctor Assistants on the following permanent contract:

- 3 full time contracts working 37.5 hour per week; and
- 1 part time contract working 30 hours per week.

Working in line with service requirements, you will typically work Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00

This is a clinical support post designed to help with clinical and administrative tasks that support ward MDT, including Junior Doctors, Physician Associates and Nursing teams.

Examples of duties include
- phlebotomy,
- cannulation,
- preparing discharge summaries,
- assessing for dementia screening,
- VTE screening, and liaising with other clinical staff.

Therefore, it is essential that you have some experience of Venepuncture and Cannulation to support this role.

Working with the multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for assisting the MDT to improve and maintain high standards of care, health and well-being of patients through assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
- Undertake point of care testing (POCT) of INR when required.
- Take/record observations/measurements. Any readings deviating from the Trust’s normal range are to be reported to a registered professional;
- Carry out routine urine testing, record results and report any abnormalities;
- Collect blood and urine specimens and label as required;
- Phlebotomy;
- Intravenous cannulation;
- Blood cultures;
- Electrocardiogram (ECG) recording;
- Basic wound care;
- Assist therapy professionals in carrying out treatment
- Undertake screening for dementia, Venous Thromboembolism, malnutrition, frailty and others as appropriate;
- Transport equipment between care settings within the hospital.
- The DA carries out administrative duties: - Update patient list and task list (including electronic versions);
- Prepare and Print discharge summary;
- Prepare and manage of patient notes;
- Check the progress of requested investigations, expediting where necessary;
- Update patients’ investigation results in electronic or physical databases after the results have been scrutinised by registered medical professionals;
- Book outpatient follow-up and anti-coagulation clinic appointments;
- Collect/deliver TTO (to take out) medications.
