Latent Defect Underwriter

**Responsibilities**
- Supported by Technical Underwriting, underwrite latent defects risks from individual residential properties up to large, mixed use properties up to a reinstatement value of £10,000,000 any one continuous structure.
- Process new quotation enquiries and mid-term adjustments.
- Liaise with the Broker, Direct and Technical Inspection Surveyors in all aspects of the underwriting of risks.
- Highlight any special considerations i.e where the risk is, additional cost for surveys etc.
- Underwriting risks up to Binding Authority limit of £10,000,000, compiling the risk details, and capturing the key information within documented Underwriting Rationale.
- Review and examine proposal forms, identifying possible risk.
- Ensure a high standard of service is offered to all internal and external customers.
- Interact with Account Executives to create a thorough understanding of the business proposed.
- Facilitate ongoing training and understanding of the Account Handlers
- Assist Underwriting Manager in all aspects of the daily operation and performance of the department.
- Check that all the required information is obtained and uploaded onto an advanced in-house IT system.

**Essential Criteria**
- A sound understanding of Underwriting Principals and general insurance market
- Knowledge of FCA Regulation
- Proven experience and knowledge of underwriting, customer service and risk analysis skills

**Desirable Criteria**
- Latent defect underwriting experience or knowledge of the construction industry
- A good level of numerical and verbal reasoning skills
- Have a strong decision making ability
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Ability to effectively negotiate with internal customers
- Ability to analyse data and use for decision making
- Understanding of complaints procedure within the insurance industry
- Have a positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Be resilient and have the ability to work under pressure

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £30,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
