Band 6 Community Dietitian Nutrition Support

Birmingham, United Kingdom Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Have you ever wondered what happened to your patients once they left the hospital ward? Would you enjoy seeing how they implement their dietetic care in ‘real life’? If so, Birmingham Community Nutrition has a vacancy in our high profile and dynamic community nutrition support team.

Our multi-professional team leads enteral feeding and specialist oral nutrition support across Birmingham: facilitating discharges, preventing admissions, and supporting patients to improve their nutritional status. You will work alongside our award-winning Nutrition Nurse team to develop your enteral feeding knowledge and practice.

Community Dietitians work in a variety of settings including clients’ own homes, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals and care homes. Many dietitians who work in community enjoy the close relationship built with patients over time rather than the brief episode of care given in a hospital setting. Working in community practice enables you to establish professional networks with a broader range of external companies and suppliers, with the ability to tailor nutritional plans and product recommendations via a comprehensive, evidence-based, taste-tested local formulary.

Community working is a specialism in itself and you will develop strong communication, negotiation, networking and promotion skills through liaising with GPs, other community health professionals, including specialist multidisciplinary teams across acute and community sectors, hospices, charities, social care and many other organisations. You will begin to see the city and how your patients manage their condition through new eyes You will appreciate a high degree of autonomy in your clinical practice and day-to-day organisation of your work, within the context of a friendly and supportive team of peers.

Birmingham Community Nutrition provides a comprehensive community citywide service and employs over 70 staff. We also support the training of dietetic students from two higher education institutions (A, B & C placements). We actively participate in clinical audit and service development.

Benefits of working for Birmingham Community Nutrition include free parking, excellent access to IT equipment to work remotely, up to date office facilities and comprehensive admin support dedicated to the service.

The department has a structured approach to Clinical Governance and your personal development via preceptorship, annual appraisals, clinical supervision and training opportunities. Career development, flexible working and staff support are given high priority in the Trust, whose goal is to be a truly inclusive organisation and a great place to work.

There are opportunities for MDT working and CPD/further study relating to a range of clinical areas such as neurodegenerative conditions, COPD, dementia, dysphagia, enteral feeding and more, in order to develop and consolidate the skills needed to work with complex patients.

Please see the attached document for a detailed description of the duties, responsibilities and key relationships of the role.

This post is open only to applicants who are qualified, registered Dietitians who hold current registration with the Health Care Professions Council in the UK.

IMPORTANT
- Please ensure you check your Trac account regularly as this is how we will communicate with you during the shortlisting and selection process
