**About the role**:
These roles are based in Brighton & Hove and will operate as part of a hybrid working model (home, office and community) with the requirement that post holders will attend the Brighton office one day a week, with additional attendance requirements where needed. Applicants will need to be able to meet with clients who are resident in Brighton & Hove.

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) you will:

- Provide a proactive, high quality and trauma-informed support service to survivors of domestic violence and abuse, providing risk assessment, safety planning and advocacy.
- Manage a caseload across various degrees of complexity and need, including survivors and families assessed at high risk of harm.
- Use a person-centred, survivor-focused approach, being mindful of the effects of trauma and additional barriers to access that individuals may experience.
- Take the lead on the development of responses to the needs of particular communities within Brighton & Hove, and the development of relationships with partner agencies in this area.
- Work as a core member of the DASS team, collaborating closely with colleagues and lead/specialist IDVAs to create meaningful pathways of engagement for survivors and ensure the service meets the needs of local communities.
- Attend the local Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) as a representative of the DASS team at Victim Support, ensuring that the voice of the survivor and their child/ren is central to multi-agency decision-making.
- Provide training sessions, presentations and workshops as needed to local professionals, facilitate drop-in sessions at local venues, and other duties as they may arise.

**You will need**:

- An understanding of the issues facing those experiencing domestic violence and abuse
- Experience with effectively assessing risk, taking appropriate action to safeguard children & vulnerable adults experiencing domestic abuse
- The ability to identify complex client needs, and develop and deliver holistic safety and support plans in response to people in vulnerable circumstances including face-to-face support
- Effective organisational skills, including experience with planning, prioritising, managing crises and a caseload, and maintaining accurate and confidential case records
- Ability to deliver training and group work.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as part of the VS team and together with statutory and voluntary sector partners
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills, including ability to advocate for and influence others using effective negotiation
- Understanding and knowledge of and active commitment to promoting equal opportunities and diversity
- Understanding of confidentiality and safe working practice in accordance with safeguarding legislation, General Data Protection Regulation and other legal requirements.
- Ability to self-reflect, identify own needs, and put in place effective self-care strategies
