**Salary**: £35,000-£50,000 based on experience

Holiday: 22 days p.a., rising 1 day per year up to 25.
- This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious DevOps specialist to lead a new Platform Engineering project that will enable our development team to efficiently deliver new and existing systems to customers via cloud centred infrastructure._
- If you have the experience and innovation necessary to support and collaborate with our development team to deliver projects including rare disease patient database, pathology workforce and training management systems, laboratory quality assurance provision and health data science then apply. _

**About you**

The successful applicant will be a talented, versatile software developer with DevOps experience working to a professional standard with up-to-date skills. This experience is likely to have been acquired working in industry as a graduate in a software, maths, science or engineering discipline. You will be looking for a new challenge as project lead, adopting platform engineering approaches to system delivery.

**Main Purpose of the job**:
**Main Duties and Accountabilities**:

- Assist the Technical Director in developing and delivering the company’s DevOps strategy.
- Developing and implementing a new _internal development platform._
- Developing and implementing the company’s cloud computing strategy.
- Ensuring a reliable computing environment throughout the company.
- Developing and maintaining configuration management systems.
- Supporting the development team in delivering production systems.
- Monitoring and maintenance of company systems.
- Ensuring site reliability and security compliance.
- Supporting staff in their use of the company’s computing facilities.
- Managing and undertaking the program of system updates, including recommending priorities and scheduling of the work.
- Coordinating and supporting the team to complete IT audits, such as Cyber Essentials+ and the NHS DSPT and ensuring systems compliance.
- Maintaining the workstation infrastructure and developing a new workstation and desktop plan.

**Competency**

**Attainment/Qualifications**

**Essential**: BSc degree or equivalent qualification in a software, maths, science or engineering discipline.

**Desirable**: PhD or MSc or equivalent qualification in a software, maths, science or engineering discipline.

**Prior Experience**

**Essential**: Experience as a DevOps engineer working with cloud environments.

**Desirable**: Working with AWS, IaC, Pulumi, Backstage, Docker, ISO27001, CE+, NHS DSPT.

**Technical Skills and Understanding**

**Essential**: Linux / Debian system administration, building and operating CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Docker.

**Desirable**: Knowledge of Puppet configuration management, Kubernetes.

**Essential**: Ability to focus and achieve specific outcomes, setting realistic timelines and delivering agreed outcomes.

**Desirable**: Focuses effort on priority tasks and activities to achieve maximum results.
