We are leading advancements in emerging technologies to deliver bespoke solutions to niche and specialist areas of the Met. The only way you can appreciate our sophisticated technologies, and how we’re using them to protect the public and fight crime across London, is to see them for yourself.

This is a unique opportunity for an Assistant Research Technologist who wants to develop and progress their research skills by working in an exciting engineering and science environment, offering excellent employee benefits, delivering concept demonstrators of technology solutions that will make London safer.

**About us**

The Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) team keeps the Met at the cutting-edge of technology. Our work is highly innovative and no two projects are ever the same. Some initiatives involve undertaking research with academia or exploring new off-the-shelf technologies. Others involve modifying commercially available products or developing our own software and electronic solutions. Delivery of our solutions involves the complete lifecycle from capturing requirements with customers, producing designs, and turning these designs into a proof-of-concept or a fully functional system for operational use.

**The role**

As an Assistant Research Technologist, you will be part of the Research team who liaise with academia and research-based industries to create and test concept demonstrators of emerging technology. These pieces of technology will be focussed towards making London safer and delivering the requirements of our customers. Your main role will be to perform rigorous, scientific testing of equipment and algorithms in a lab-based environment, following a defined test strategy.

Under the guidance of the Research Technologist, your role will involve working effectively as part of a team in the laboratory or working individually to complete testing. You will also assist the research technologist in determining the tests required, including control samples. Once the testing data is collected, you’ll also assist in performing basic statistical analysis and visualisation techniques. You’ll also be involved in setting up and configuring technical demonstrations to both customers and senior members of the Met. You will also assemble any apparatus required to perform the testing or the concept demonstrators provided by academia. You’ll be co-operating and collaborating with members of the IT and Electronics development teams in order to leverage their expertise. We give you the time and space to nurture your interests, and you’ll be surrounded by a warm and inclusive team who will share your enthusiasm for technology.

**Vetting**

**We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.**

**As a Disability Confident Committed Employer the Met have committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.**
