We are looking for an AAT or ATT Tax Trainee with at least 6 months experience preparing UK tax returns to join us in our Harpenden tax office. The job will be a permanent role, working 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday. Our office hours are 09:00 to 17:30.

Hicks and Company is a Hertfordshire based firm of Chartered Accountants with offices in Harpenden, Hitchin and Hemel Hempstead.

You will be working in an established Tax Department in a trainee role. This position involves a number of different aspects including preparing UK tax computations, processing UK tax returns, and HM Revenue & Customs documents on behalf of clients. You will have support and on the job training from managers and other staff. During your training you will be expected to develop an understanding of the practical issues involved in delivering a high-quality service to clients.

Both practical and theoretical training will be supported, with the aim to becoming a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians or Association of Taxation Technicians. A wide range of Taxation work and on-the-job training will be provided.

**The role will include**
- Preparing UK personal tax returns including computations.
- Assisting with P11d’s.
- Rental Statements.
- Supporting the Team to ensure all returns are filed by the relevant deadline.
- Liaising directly with clients when they come into the office and on the phone.
- Attending to the tax team administration duties including maintaining spreadsheets, producing reports, raising fees and filing.
- Exposure to Bookkeeping and VAT returns to be compliant with Making Tax Digital.

**Qualifications Required**

**Skills Required**:

- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook;
- Experience using tax software, ideally Sage Personal Tax;
- Must be able to work well as part of a team with good interpersonal skills;
- Accurate typing and/or data entry skills;
- Numerate & detail conscious;
- Professional & hard working;
- Driven and enthusiastic
- A general interest in business, accountancy and tax will be expected.

**Salary**: £22,000.00-£27,000.00 per year
