**Job description**:
The NCEA (Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment) is a Defra flagship evidence programme with a high profile with policy makers across the department and cross-government (including Treasury).

Some of the examples of previous economics projects done in the team is: I) understanding the value of blue carbon across UK waters, II) embedding natural environment in Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling, III) recreational and culture values of UK’s coastal line.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team, and work directly alongside scientist and social researchers, and our programme team, in supporting the delivery of marine NCEA.

**_ Some of the activity that this role will be delivering includes:_**
- Owning and leading on the development of the economic evidence base for marine NCEA.
- Commissioning and overseeing delivery of large primary and secondary economic research projects (with Defra ALB’s and externally). The programme has over £40m in R&D evidence funding.
- Communicate findings, evidence and analysis to a policy officials and senior leaders.
- Carry out desk based analysis on natural capital data to provide policy insights and recommendations, including understanding how bring together economic, environmental and socio-economic data.
- Set out the strategic approach on future economics evidence need of policy teams for where the programme can add long-term value.
- Own relationships and build a network of colleagues with Defra’s ALB, academia and external organisations, to achieve progress on shared outcomes.

**Person specification**:
**You will**:

- Have a minimum of 2:1 in Economics degree (or a degree with 50% Economics content)
- Have relevant experience working within an economics role
- Be able to lead and develop an area of research independently
- Have experience in working in multidisciplinary teams and with a variety of stakeholders
- Be confident in presenting any analysis to senior policy colleagues in a non-technical manor
- Be experienced in working with a range of data sources, assessing these for robustness and using imperfect data to answer analytical questions
- Follow appropriate procurement and other procedures to ensure we source the best advice and analysis
- Have experience in scoping and developing research projects
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in other related policy areas and contribute relevant analysis in these areas
