Patients coming into the department are; Referred by their GP to the on-call team of the appropriate speciality and are seen by them in the Emergency Department if the medical assessment unit/surgical assessment units are full, or if these patients are unstable and require resuscitation. Referred by their GP for Emergency Department attention. Self-referrals (999 attendances or walk-ins). Booked appointments through NHS 111.

The role will involve a 20:80 split of non-clinical trauma based activity, including QIP and Simulation training working alongside the ED and Major Trauma teams, with clinical shifts on the full time ED rota We see around 100,000 new attenders a year. The Ophthalmology, ENT and MFU departments are on site. Emergencies coming to the Emergency Department may be seen in AED by doctors from those specialities. The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery is a separate Trust but on the same site.
