**Apprenticeship context and summary**

Birmingham Research Park provides secure, high quality office space, and virtual tenancies, in a community of research-led companies.

During this apprenticeship you will learn how to carry out a variety of tasks as well as providing excellent customer service to all visitors and tenants at the Research Park.

This apprenticeship is an exciting opportunity to work within University of Birmingham Enterprise and is designed to provide a wide range of facilities services experience.

You will learn to support the effective running of the busy Facilities Office providing support across all facilities comprising a broad variety of activities. The role is necessarily broad in scope and the post-holder will have the opportunity of experiencing and learning about every aspect of the Bio Hub facility including space management, building maintenance and health and safety. The role will include day-to-day office duties, facilities assistance, and basic project administration with scope to learn new areas as the apprenticeship progresses.

**Main duties the apprentice will learn**
- Delivery of prompt and efficient welcome for tenants’ staff and visitors, telephone customers, contractors, and delivery personnel.
- Assist with cover for the reception desk as well as supporting development of the reception desk rota.
- The monitoring of the site entrance, intercoms, telephones, radios and security systems.
- Assisting with locking up duties as directed.
- Secure and accurate handling of deliveries and the distribution of mail.
- Administrate meeting room usage and assist meeting room users with the use of AV equipment.
- Assist colleagues in the booking, planning and setting up of rooms and equipment for special events and meetings.
- Record repairs or maintenance requests on the site database, ensuring issues are escalated promptly.
- Carry out basic regular building checks, recording any issues.
- Assist with ad-hoc janitorial tasks such as replenishing washroom stock, vacuuming, mopping, tidying up stock cupboards.
