**Job Title**
Youth Development Worker.

**Reports To**
The _‘Youth Development Worker’_ will report to _‘Project Manager’_.

**Job Overview**
As a Paint Me Red Youth Development Worker, you will work in line with the ethos’s of Paint Me Red, holding to Christian values, whilst being able to demonstrate an inclusive use of biblical principles that will aid the young people you work with to discover and develop a strong sense of identity. Within your role as a mentor, you will equip the young people to set and achieve both personal and expected goals, building a strong rapport that will breed a healthy working relationship, both between you, your young person and stakeholders.

You will be working directly with a variety of vulnerable and at risk young people, and so need to be able to understand their viewpoint in order to communicate a clear and attainable message that will help build a sense of identity within them using a variety of provided and developed tools.

**Responsibilities and Duties**
Everything you do is for the personal development and growth of the young person you work for.
- Arrange an introductory meeting with your mentee/s and any significant persons, and professional stakeholders, where possible, i.e., parent/carers, teachers and/or social workers.
- Use, develop and adapt resources for the specific use of your young person or group.
- Working with your young person develop an initial action plan. This plan will include items such as, frequency of one-to-one sessions and initial goals. The plan will clearly define the circle of support around the young person and will be reviewed throughout the mentoring programme.
- Keep up-to-date records of significant persons.
- Schedule follow-up sessions with your young person, to gauge progress and identify areas to be worked upon.
- Support mentees and small groups, through their socioeconomical and psychosocial difficulties as they arise, either through guidance, signposting and/or advocacy work, where needed.
- Write sessional case notes.
- Prepare and present final reports, in line with KPIs and targets previously set.
- Attend team meetings, to share progress, concerns and advice on plans of action, as well as, receiving any updates on future meetings/events.
- Complete and attend in-house training.
- Be prepared to deliver small group sessions and facilitate in-school drop-in days, which you will receive training for, as and when the opportunities arise.
- Uphold the values and principles of Paint Me Red throughout all your work and interactions with stakeholders, i.e., mentees, parent/carers and external agencies.
- Report all pressing concerns or out of hours interactions with _‘Project Manager’_.

**Person Specification**

**Skills.**
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate to a diverse group of stakeholders, from mentees to external agencies.
- Excellent people skills with all persons, and astute ability to build rapport with disillusioned young people, who are often from complex backgrounds.
- Ability to manage and arrange your own workload.
- Ability to work on your own initiative, or as part of a team in order to achieve outcomes.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Excellent time-management.
- Excellent IT skills, including all Microsoft packages.

**Experience.**
- Proven or provable experience of working with vulnerable/disadvantaged young people.
- A clear commitment to child and young people safety, in line with Paint Me Red and stakeholder safeguarding policies and procedures, as well as staff responsibility in executing duties.
- Knowledge of the issues disadvantaged young people face.
- Experience of managing and prioritising your own workload.
- Confidence and experience in delivering and facilitating groups of young people

(preferable, but not essential).

**Education.**
- Grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) in English and Maths GCSE, or Equivalent.
- Mentoring and/or Youth Work Qualification, or equivalent is desired, but not essential.

**Job Type**: Zero hours contract

**Salary**: £15.00 per hour
