An exciting development opportunity has arisen within the Practice Development Team for a Clinical Educator to join the team.

The Practice Development Team is based on the Guy's site, and covers all areas within the directorate of Theatres, Anaesthesia and Peri-operative Medicine (TAP) which include Scrub, Anaesthesia, Post-operative and Peri-operative care specialties. This post will involve cross site working within the TAP directorate.

The post holder will focus on the development of all staff within TAP.The post holder will support the development of pre-registration student nurses and ODPs, apprentice nursing associates, newly qualified nurses and ODPs, NQN rotation programme, preceptorship and local induction. The TAP Practice Development Team provides and supports our clinical courses and the CPD requirements of all staff within the directorate.

You will also be supported to complete the Teaching our Teachers (TOT) course, as part of your professional development

Whilst in this role, you will gain an insight into the role and work of the Practice Development Team, and the wider issues around education and training requirements within TAP. There will also, be a focus on audit processes to look at the improvement and maintenance of standards of practice.

You will have excellent communication skills and demonstrate extensive clinical Peri-operative experience. You will integrate into the Practice Development team and work with our staff and external education providers. You will be able to work autonomously, and have an understanding of education initiatives within theatre practice.

- Independently manage a group of students/staff within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised care.
- Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
- Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.
- Ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
- To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning delivery and evaluation of individualised care.
- Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.
- Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advance clinical skills and responsible for carrying out specialist nursing procedures to area.
- Ensure that sensitive patient records are stored appropriately.
- Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross infection in relation to the safe disposal of body fluids (including blood).
- To be an effective communicator with students/staff regarding treatment and management.
- Facilitate a high quality, cost effective specialist service through monitoring and audit and other quality initiatives agreed by the Trust.
- Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients and staff. To bring instances to the attention of the Sister/Charge Nurse for the area.
