Caretaker and Facilities Supervisor

One of the top ranked secondary schools in the North East is looking for a Caretaker and Facilities Supervisor to ensure the buildings, facilities and the school environment is safe and secure. The Caretaker and Facilities Supervisor will need to have previously worked in a caretaking or building maintenance role and have worked in a similar environment. In addition the Caretaker and Facilities Supervisor will have good communication, IT, teamwork and leadership skills as well as be able to work at heights and willing to undergo asbestos and first aid training.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Safeguard and promote the welfare of students
- Supervise, motivate and lead the caretaking team
- Provide direct management and supervision of caretaking staff
- Monitor all caretaking activity ensuring duties are carried out in accordance with school policies
- Assist the Head of Facilities & Estates, doing the relevant tests and reporting, and carrying out safety activities to provide a safe environment
- Ensure buildings and the site is secure, and respond to out of hours/weekend calls to deal with emergency issues
- Regularly check and monitor building related matters such as heating, lighting, furniture, security, roofs etc.
- Report to the Head of Facilities & Estates and deputise/coordinate during their absence
- Perform any other duties related to the role

**Knowledge, skills and qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Have previously worked in caretaking or building maintenance in a similar role
- Have worked in a school environment or similar
- Have good awareness of health and safety legislation and good practice
- Is able to work at heights
- Is able to undergo asbestos and first aid training
- Have good communication, IT, teamwork, and leadership skills

**Desirable**:

- Gained IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications

**Salary**: £25,000 to £29,000 DOE + 11% shift allowance and OT (raising salary to £35k-£37k)

**Hours**: 40 Hours per week. Shifts 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00
- You will be requested to opt out of the Working Time Regulations and agree to work on average of 48 hours per over a 17-week period at certain times_
