**Job Description**:

- ** Job Title**: Transformer laboratory and technical manager
- ** Job Type**:Permanent
- ** Hours**: 37.5 per week

**Key Accountabilities**
- Responsible for analysis and reporting of samples in accordance with customer and company objectives, e.g. in terms of turnaround time, quality and financial objectives, to ensure the fulfilment of contractual KPI’s and maximise profitability.
- Responsible for techniques within area of expertise. Ensure the transfer of skills / knowledge to other members of the team.
- Discuss projects with customers, prepare proposals and quotations with Supervisor and supporting project management.
- Ensure Laboratory Management System (SLIM) is fully operational and utilised to ensure compliance with all test procedures, methods and quality systems for delivery of traceable and accurate results.
- Maintain organised and auditable systems of work for traceability and compliance with UKAS accreditation.
- Where appropriate provide front line maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment within the Non routine business, allowing for the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory
- Support the Supervisor to develop, modify and validate methods to ISO17025 using various techniques, such as ICP-OES/MS, GPC, IR & PDSC.
- Regularly liase with Laboratory Manager and Supervisor to keep appraised of workload priorities.
- Participate, when required, in SQC and Round Robin Proficiency testing schemes to ensure quality and reliability of the data from the service is maintained.
- Responsible for performing internal technical audits to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Maintain & update skills, qualifications & knowledge through reading, study & supervised on-the-job learning to promote continuous improvement and provide high quality services to SGS customers.
- Identify and help to implement improvements to current laboratory operations in order to maximise equipment availability, ensure technical standards are maintained and improved, promote continuous improvement and provision of a quality service to clients, thus ensuring profitability.
- When required, liaise with customers to keep them informed of analytical test issues such as delays, etc. to ensure customer satisfaction and confidence is maintained.
- Support and provide commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of the laboratories through adherence with SGS’s H&S and quality systems, e.g., near misses/CAPRs/SIRs.

**Qualifications**:
Essential
- Working knowledge of a wide range of relevant analytical instrumentation techniques.
- Carrying out problem solving activities and investigatory work including report writing for clients
- Experience of working in a UKAS lab environment

**Qualifications**

Essential
- A degree or equivalent in Analytical Science or Chemistry, i.e., BSc/HNC
- Valid driving licence for UK
- Considerable experience in transformer design, transformer servicing or OCM analysis

Desirable
- A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering.
- Relevant professional qualification/membership of industry body e.g., RSC.
- General experience within the petro-chemical sector.
- Experience managing a team
