We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Border Force has 6 operational regions in the UK: North, Central, Heathrow, South, South East and Europe. These regions have responsibility for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots, inland border facilities and international rail network. This includes the Eurostar from Brussels and Paris to London St Pancras International, Seaports from Calais, Dunkerque to Dover and the Eurotunnel from Coquelles to Cheriton, where Border Force has juxtaposed controls.
The Command Support Team is a small non-operational team consisting of Executive Officers and Higher Officers. We assist the operational staff by dealing with the following: shift rosters; annual leave; work force planning; training; onboarding new staff; accommodation matters; procurement of office supplies; dealing with passenger complaints; completing audits and statistics for senior management team. A large proportion of our work is computer based, using Excel Spreadsheets and specialist databases.
- This role requires office attendance, based at Stansted Terminal, working Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00.
**Person specification**:
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised individual who is able to work as part of a team and without close supervision. You must have the ability to be a self-starter, work effectively, remain professional, be able to multi task, prioritise and work within tight time frames.
- The post can include any of the functions below:
- To contribute as part of the operational support unit to the effective running of the office.
- Leave Management: Categorising non-urgent leave requests and maintaining leave details for the command. Keeping accurate records and statistics for sick absence.
- Database Management: Updating specialist databases (e.g. TAMS) and conducting audits of shift working patterns and contracts (Annualised Hours Allowance).
- Assisting Operational Teams with case progression and working with operational colleagues to progress Immigration cases.
- Working with stakeholders and other government departments to progress immigration cases.
- Information Handling (HR data, Security data, Statistics, Operational statistics): Preparation of data for weekly planning meetings to ensure business needs and priorities are met.
- Information Preparation: Duty List compilation for operational staff.
- Training Records: Maintaining and updating training records for all staff Skills Matrix and Team sheets.
- Training Requirements: Liaison with the Training Liaison Officer (TLO) and other stakeholders to identify training needs of staff and ensure relevant courses are delivered.
- Possible line management responsibilities in the future for operational support AOs.
- Provide administrative support to the Command Support Unit and Senior Officers as directed.
- Uniform ordering.
- Completing statistics for the Senior Management Team.
- Workforce planning and running recruitment campaigns.
**Essential Criteria**
The successful post holder will need to demonstrate the following:
- Proficiency in creating and managing spread sheets (Excel), and data collection
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Excellent communication skills and able to display strong interpersonal oral skills
- Flexibility in their approach to overcome change
- Experience of working in a Business Support environment
**Desirable Criteria**
- An ability to coordinate tasks in a fast-paced environment
- A valid full UK manual driving licence.
