An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapy Assistant to join the Therapy Team at Bowmere Hospital. This is a temporary post covering maternity leave in the following areas: two acute admission wards for adults and older people experiencing mental illness, a ward for people with dementia, a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) and two mental health rehabilitation wards.

This post is fixed term until 31st March 2024 to cover current post holder.

The successful applicant will be passionate about supporting people to improve their physical health and have an appreciation of how mental health can impact on an individual’s physical health. They will also be an excellent communicator and team worker who is able to build rapport with people from all walks of life, and also be able to liaise with other professionals within the team.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual who is able to support service users to participate in Physiotherapy assessments and interventions. You will be encouraged to work independently, whilst still having support, guidance, and direction from the Specialist Physiotherapist.

The Physiotherapy service provides support for service users’ physical health during their mental health impatient stay. The aim of physiotherapy is to help service users restore movement and function when these have been afflicted by injury, illness or disability.

The postholder will work alongside Occupational Therapy and Fitness Instructors, and as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) with colleagues on the wards and other relevant external services. The Therapy team has a well-resourced Therapy department and a large gym.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.
