**Home working**:

- This role is to join our specialist in-house legal costs division as a Trainee Law Costs Drafter, either based in our Bristol office or joining our New Malden team._
- With our Bristol team, there would be a combination of home and office working, working 1 day per week from our central Bristol office and 4 days from home. With our New Malden team, you would work remotely for the majority of the time, attending meetings in New Malden approximately once per month. You would therefore need the infrastructure in place to work from home and will be provided with a company laptop and all relevant software/equipment for the role._

**Purpose**:
The costs division deals with all aspects of costs litigation. This role is to join our fixed costs dispute resolution team and would suit an individual with ambitions to commence their career in the legal world, ideally in the area of costs litigation.

**Duties**:
The role will include, but not be limited to:

- Preparation of costs schedules
- Reviewing and calculation of fixed costs
- Reviewing and calculating disbursements and expenses
- Negotiation disputes

**Skills/Competencies required**:

- Strong numerical skills are required, with a 'Grade C’ in Maths GCSE (or equivalent) as minimum;
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills will be necessary;
- A common sense approach to legal work;
- Accuracy and an eye for detail;
- A demonstrable interest in developing a career in the arena of costs litigation will be favoured.

It may assist, but it is certainly not essential that you are a graduate and have legal qualifications and/or relevant legal experience.

In any event, full training will be provided to equip you with a strong understanding of litigation processes and costs law.

**Development**:
The costs litigation team is growing - with opportunities for future development over the next few years where you will have opportunities to deal with more complex and higher value costs disputes. The nature of the work also means that within this role you will be able to complete various current routes to qualification including as a costs lawyer, solicitor or FCILEx. We would encourage any route to qualification and may be able to provide some financial assistance as part of our course funding initiatives.

As a trainee law costs drafter, you will join a salary structure whereby you will have regular six-monthly salary reviews on a two-year structure.

You can expect a salary increase in accordance with the structure if your performance is satisfactory and will therefore benefit from regular discussions about your progression, through formal appraisals and one-to-one meetings.
