The Greater Nottingham Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (GNDESP) requires a dedicated Failsafe Support Officer to assist in the delivery of the Eye Screening Service across the Greater Nottingham Region.

The GNDESP is delivered in line with National quality assurance standards, local policies and procedures. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication with patients, colleagues within the Trust and in primary and secondary care.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
**_To follow systematic processes using specialist local and national databases, Microsoft Word and Excel for the eye screening pathway ensuring assessment and treatment is clearly identified. Clear lines of communication are vital as this involves liaison with primary and secondary care colleagues to develop and maintain failsafe systems and to ensure patients receive timely treatment by; -_**
***To support the Failsafe Officer with the tracking patients referred into Hospital Eye Services (HES) and discharged
To support the Failsafe Officer ensure those who require treatment in HES following referral from DESP, receive appointments in line with national pathway objective
To assist with Identifying conflicting outcomes between HES and the DESP, and escalating to the Failsafe Officer accordingly for investigation
To assist with the input data according to activity for monitoring and analysing capacity
Access the Trust information systems to obtain authorised information regarding patient treatments and discharge, evidence including the status of retinopathy, maculopathy and any laser treatment undertaken for patients on the DESP database at time of discharge
To support the Failsafe Officer with the management and manual validation of GP submissions and follow up practices who are not engaged in the process by liaising with practice managers and CCG leads
To support with the audit of Hospital Eye Service Laser books against the DESP database by collecting and entering data into the advanced ophthalmology module
To assist the Failsafe Officer with the audit of patients registered Sight Impaired or Severely Sight Impaired due to Diabetic retinopathy into a dedicated template and provide analysis and a summary in the absence of the Failsafe Support Officer
Report all adverse events appropriately via NUH DATIX system
In the absence of the Failsafe Support Officer help provide training to colleagues relating to failsafe tasks
Assist the Failsafe Support Officer to write failsafe related standard operating procedures (SOPs) and recommend changes to working practices
Carry out daily data analysis tasks
Provide support and work with the service administrative team
Attend National failsafe related training and events
Understand the DESP National Pathway Standards and how failsafe is featured
In the absence of the Failsafe Support Officer present failsafe cases studies and findings during MDT or in primary care settings

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 5 GCSE or equivalent qualifications including English and Mathematics or equivalent qualification or evidence of competency gained through experience
- EDCL or equivilent experience
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding and of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy
- Passed relevant units in the City & Guilds level 3 diabetic retinopathy course
- Educated to A Level standard
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 18 months administration experience
- Familiar with medical terminology
- Experience dealing with patient complaints on the telephone and in writing
- Confident using Microsoft Excel
- Awareness of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Knowledge of Diabetic Eye Screening
Desirable criteria
- Previous failsafe experience
- Experience of working in a diabetic eye screening programme
- Presenting skills
- Experience of clerical or administrative team working in a clinical environment
- Proven experience in database handling and development
- Evidence of successful personal initiatives to positively change large systems
- Experience of hospital systems such as Medway PAS and Notis
