The Home Affairs and Social Policy Research Group undertakes contract research and analysis in a range of public policy areas:

- Education (including early childhood education and care, school effectiveness);
- Crime and justice (including responses to offending, international law enforcement cooperation, organised crime and illicit markets).

We are looking for an experienced researcher to provide **senior leadership** in quantitative research methods and to **drive the expansion** of RAND’s impact evaluation portfolio across the topics of education, employment and criminal justice.

- We are looking for researcher with the **proven ability to win work** in a competitive environment. An essential part of the role is leading successful proposals in response to invitations to tender.

Key Responsibilities**:Research Leadership**
- Writing successful proposals: Leads the design of quantitative research and evaluation studies in response to invitations to tender. Demonstrates commercial awareness within a not-for-profit ethos. Draws on understanding of client need and competitive landscape to maximise proposal success.
- Delivering successful projects: Manages and delivers complex projects within available time and resources. Oversees and directly contributes to the delivery of written reports that present research findings clearly for policymaker audiences.
- Maximising impact: Engages with policymakers and those who use our research to further our mission to inform policy and decision making and increase the impact of our work. Maintains and widens RAND Europe’s external profile. Builds partnerships and collaborations with academics and other researchers, enabling us to deliver innovative and high-quality research
- Championing research quality: Promotes high-quality, robust quantitative research design, methodology, analysis and reporting across the Home Affairs and Social Policy Group and across RAND Europe more widely.
- Contributing to team leadership: Works with senior researchers to foster team culture and support improvement and learning. Provides mentoring and support to facilitate the professional development of junior researchers.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience**:Quantitative research methods - **essential**
- Leadership in the design and execution of quantitative research, from the proposal stage through to study finalisation and write-up.
- A strong background in research with a focus on quantitative data and statistics, including expert use of software packages (Stata, R) for modelling and econometric techniques, including regression and matching.

**Undertaking impact evaluations - **essential**
- Experience of designing impact evaluation studies using experimental and/or quasi-experimental designs.
- Experience in undertaking feasibility studies to inform future trial designs.
