Assistant Practitioner

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated people who have completed the Foundation degree in Health and Social Care with specialisation in Diagnostic Radiography to join the busy Radiology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
The post holder needs to be well organized with good communication skills to ensure they can work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure Radiology provides a high quality service to all its users. A sympathetic attitude to patients is essential ensuring safe and compassionate care. You will need to be able to cope with distressing and often challenging situations while prioritising your workload. In addition, some office duties will be required including basic computer skills where you must have good attention to detail and maintain accurate records.
To perform plain image radiographic projections in a variety of locations under the supervision of a Radiographer / Practitioner.
Ensuring high quality imaging and a good standard of care through the effective use of evidence based practice in line with agreed local and national standards.
To adhere to and encourage other disciplines to acknowledge local rules and IR(ME)R
Support the Department in providing a timely radiographic service on a 24/7 basis.
The post holder will be flexible in their approach as the Radiology Department is constantly changing so that it can provide a service that meets Local and National Modernisation Agendas.
Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.
Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.
We now employ around 4,800 staff and currently provide 444 hospital beds across the Gateshead region.

To be proficient in radiographic techniques of general radiography for extremity, chest, spinal, abdominal and pelvic projections in following the department's training program.
Work effectively and safely within your defined area of practice under the instruction and supervision of a registered practitioner / radiographer and within relevant legal and ethical frameworks.
To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of your own area of practice.
To comprehend and undertake all patient care procedures within your sphere of competence.
To function as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
To demonstrate effective interpersonal and patient care skills.
To demonstrate accountability for your own actions.
To demonstrate an ability to gather relevant information and act appropriately.
To demonstrate effective information technology, literacy and numeracy skills in relation to your defined area of practice.
To actively participate in CPD.
Establish and maintain communication with staff and patients on routine operational matters and overcoming any differences in communication between those involved.
Monitor and maintain Health & Safety & Security.
Contribute to Service Development.
Contribute to Service Development, Quality Improvements and take an active role in Safecare (Clinical Governance) activities. Support Lead Radiographer in improving quality of service whilst working towards the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme.
Support people’s Equal Diversity and Rights.
Assist in monitoring and protecting groups and individuals whose health & well-being may be at risk with respect to radiation safety.
Plan, monitor and evaluate the movement of people and goods.
Input and process patient data, when required.
Adaptation of skills and knowledge alongside technological advancements are essential to service developments and improvements, which enhance overall patient care.
