Ashton Recruitment require a Waste Transfer Station Operative for our client based in Belfast.

Position: Waste Transfer Station Operative

Location: Belfast

Duration: Temporary

Rate of Pay: £11.81 per hour

Hours of Work: 37 hours between the hours of 0730-1600

Duties include (but not limited to):
To control all site traffic - directing heavy goods vehicles depositing and delivering:

- Municipal waste at the WTS reception hall,
- Recovery materials at the Recycling area at the WTS.
- Other materials and equipment to site

To inspect and ensure the correctness of all duty of care documentation accompanying municipal wastes entering the station.

To maintain general site tidiness and cleanliness at the WTS including but not limited to:

- Clearing litter from planted areas and around site perimeter, its fences, entrance and approach roads.
- Cleaning such items as site offices, canteen accommodation, site vehicles such as Light Vehicles, using high pressure washing equipment when necessary
- Maintaining the site infrastructure, i.e. carrying out general repairs and cleaning off; site roads, drainage, site offices, ;the erection of site signage ;painting, and any other general maintenance and repair works, including perimeter fencing, using portable power tools, as required.
- Brush, clean and wash the waste reception hall on a regular programme set by management taking into consideration vehicle movements and operation of the loading shovel.
- Maintain the WEEE recycling area in a clean and orderly condition by placing loose materials in their respective containers and sweeping the area of dirt and litter.
- To assist where necessary with off-loading of deliveries of materials and other equipment to site using site telescopic handler

To safely store Waste Electrical and Electronic (WEEE) and other wastes banned from landfill, monitor stock levels and, in liaison with the Site Supervisor, ensure timely and safe uploading and removal by external contractors

Essential Criteria:

- possess a full, current C1 (class 3) driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland; and

(a) labouring within the commercial, building, waste, transport or other heavy industry including the management of site traffic;
(b) operating and maintaining a range of plant and machinery as required and driving Light Vehicles; and

(c) providing advice and guidance to drivers and other customers on a daily basis in a face-to-face environment.

**Eligible applicants will be required to undertake and pass a driving assessment as part of the selection process.**

**Applicants must** be able to demonstrate evidence of the following special skills and attributes which may be tested at interview:

- Health and Safety awareness: a good understanding of health and safety procedures and need for compliance in relation to self, other employees and the general public in a high risk working environment.
- Technical knowledge: be alert with the ability to direct and control commercial vehicular traffic. Understand the problems associated with lorries discharging in the presence of the operation of heavy plant.
- Oral communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and deal with confrontational situations in a professional manner. The ability to give clear oral instructions and information to members of the public.
- Team working skills: the ability to work as an effective team member who contributes to the success of the team and achievement of objectives by making contributions and building on the contributions made by others.
- Written communication skills: a good standard of literacy with the ability to create and maintain records and write about issues with clarity.
- Work planning and prioritisation skills: the ability to plan and prioritise work to ensure that tasks are completed within appropriate timescales
