Trustee (Youth Work)

StratforduponAvon, United Kingdom Stratford Youth Collective Full time

Do you share our belief that every young person should have somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to?

Stratford Youth Collective (SYC) was set up two years ago to make this a reality for young people in Stratford-on-Avon. SYC developed with support from a local community foundation and five local organisations that support young people. After achieving CIO status in August, our founding board is recruiting trustees with the specific skills and experience needed to realise the bold ambitions of our young members.

Youth Work: Do you have experience of running universal and/or targeted sessions in a youth club style setting? Have you recruited and managed staff/volunteers to meet the needs of diverse communities of young people, including young people from marginalised communities, young people with shared experiences eg being a young carer or experience of the care system, and young people with additional needs? Do you have a qualification in Youth Work, JNC or other? Do you have experience of supporting young people as leaders and/or community activists? We’re already taking steps to make sure that 50% of our Board are under 25 and looking for trustees able to support the participation of all young people.

If you enjoy working collaboratively, are open to new learning and new ways of working, willing to accept shared responsibility for decisions that affect our staff and volunteers, and committed to the amazing young people in our area, we’d love to hear from you.

What difference will you make as a Trustee?

The honest answer is that we don’t know exactly because this is just the start of a genuinely exciting period of development to establish a sustainable, innovative youth charity.

What we know is that local young people, like young people everywhere, urgently need more support. Support that meets them where they are, based on their needs. What that looks like will be up to them and will only be possible with the support of experienced, enthusiastic and committed people. We’re lucky to have small team of staff rich in these qualities who are known and trusted by local young people. We now need a leadership body who can also bring and share them.

Our current Board of four trustees includes people with a range of experience including safeguarding, youth services, fundraising and governance.

We’re committed to building a Board that can inspire SYC members. We know how unusual it is for many young people to see someone who looks like them or sounds like them in a senior role so we’re particularly keen to hear from people who can help us build a board that’s inclusive as well as diverse.

Time Commitment: Between 4 and 8 hours a month. We meet as a group bi-monthly but there is additional work outside these meetings in sub-committees/other tasks.

Term: We ask trustees to stay with us for three years to help with continuity.

The process
- We’ll send you our three-year strategy and a role description.
- Why you’d like to use your time to support a youth charity
- What skills and experience you can bring to the role of trustee
- How a friend or colleague would describe your role in a team - how do you work with others?
- Two existing trustees
- Stratford Youth Together - our youth panel

**Job Types**: Part-time, Volunteer

Expected hours: 1 - 2 per week
