**Please note that this position is being offered as a Fixed Term Contract or Secondment and is for a period of 12 months.**

**The working style for this role is an Anywhere Worker but we will require you to attend the office in Chelmsford on average 1-2 days a week around business need, however as part of the role includes working across multiple local authorities there is an expectation that the post holder be available to travel to those authorities as necessary.**

**Job Purpose**

We’re looking for a procurement officer for an exciting role in the Shared Procurement Team. The role will offer a great opportunity to an individual developing their career, supporting the delivery of procurement activity across multiple authorities and across a range of categories of spend in this newly formed team.

This is a great role for someone who has good commercial and analytical skills that would like to develop their procurement career. You will gain extensive knowledge across a range of categories and have the opportunity to progress your career in a supportive environment with a culture of continuous improvement.

**Accountabilities**
- Manage responses to supplier queries, offering basic procurement advice to colleagues across different Authorities.
- Deal effectively with supplier correspondence, ensuring that messaging is conducted in a fair, transparent and auditable manner.
- Lead the delivery of low risk sourcing processes, ensuring compliance with the respective Authority’s Procurement Policy and Procedures.
- Support the development of category management to member Authorities, identifying saving opportunities and ensuring effective stakeholder management and compliance with existing contractual requirements.
- Adopt a continuous improvement approach to systems and processes to support the development of best practice for wider benefit.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

**The Experience You Will Bring**
- Educated to ‘A’ Level standard and/or qualification by experience of working in a commercial environment.
- Experience of running low level tenders with a working knowledge of public sector procurement law
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel. Solid working knowledge of PowerPoint and MS Word.
- Appreciation of working in a political environment and an ability to understand and respond to different perspectives.
- Strong communication; verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Strong customer focus with a drive to provide a valued service.
- A positive attitude: a ‘can do’ approach, good work ethic and willingness to learn
- Interest in pursuing a career in procurement and either studying for or wishing to study for CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) accreditation.
