**_ Additional context:_**
- The Music Department will have 6 pupils in Year 13 and six pupils in Year 12 in September 2023
- There will be 25 pupils embarking upon GCSE Music
- The Edexcel syllabus is taught at GCSE
- The Eduqas syllabus is taught at A Level
- Year-on-year we have pupils continue their music studies at degree level, including at institutions such as Oxbridge and conservatoire

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To facilitate and build on the September 2023 launch of the Music Department’s vision for KS3: ‘Music: The New Generation’
- To establish and lead a vision for Academic Mastery at all key stages
- To be responsible for the curriculum content and academic progress of pupils in Years 7 to 13 in curricular music lessons. This includes the teaching of GCSE and A-level Music
- To be responsible for facilitating ‘good uptake’ of GCSE and A Level Music, and beyond
- To establish, lead and facilitate the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 and from Year 9 to Year 10

**General**
- To be responsible for managing and monitoring the Senior School curricular teaching carried out by other Music Department staff, under the guidance of the Director of Music
- To provide Senior School teaching staff with feedback on lesson observation and the quality of marking and progress made by their students, under the guidance of the Director of Music. This information, alongside the monitoring of co-curricular contributions by teaching staff, will be used to inform the completion of the yearly appraisals which are completed by the Director of Music

**Administration**
- To be responsible for compiling and updating key documents for the teaching, assessment and promotion of curricular music alongside the Department staff, including but not limited to: Departmental schemes of work, a coursework recording and submission calendar, internal written exams and tests, exam entry sheets, mark sheets for recording and tracking pupil performance in internal assessments, and information for pupils and parents about the music curriculum
- To allocating classes and teaching spaces to Department staff across the Senior School, in liaison with the Director of Music
- To represent the Music Department at Parents’ Evenings and other external events
- To be responsible for purchasing and maintaining the equipment and textbooks used in the music classrooms for curricular teaching, and for planning future spending on classroom equipment by contributing to the Department's budget request
- To be responsible for communicating with IT support staff and for putting strategies in place to maintain the Department's classroom equipment in working order
- To track changes to the GCSE and A-level specifications, drawing these changes to the attention of Department colleagues, researching new resources, including software, which may enhance the Department's teaching. This may include proposing and assisting with specification changes, under the guidance of the Director of Music
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date records which signals the outcomes of all pupils at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
- To facilitate intervention at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 as required, under the guidance of the Director of Music
- To promote and facilitate up-to-date CPD for classroom staff across all Key Stages

**Curricular Teaching**
- To lead the teaching of curricular music in the Department by modelling excellent practice in the teaching of Senior School pupils and by sharing and organising resources
- To coordinate, and play a key role in the recording, collection, marking and moderation of controlled assessment and GCSE/ A-level coursework
- To coordinate, and play a key role in the programme of support required by GCSE and A-level pupils outside lesson time, in the form of co-curricular clinics, rehearsals, detentions and communications with parents
- To be responsible for organising programmes of observation and feedback between Department colleagues.
- To teach in the Prep Schools, as allocated by the Director of Music

**Co-**curricular Activities**
- To play a full role in the co-curricular musical life of the School across the Senior and Girls’ and Boys’ Preparatory Schools
- To direct ensembles (which may include choirs, bands and chamber groups): rehearsing and directing groups in weekly rehearsals and termly performances, selecting and preparing sheet music, preparing the rehearsal space, recruiting members, monitoring attendance and following up absences
