About you and this role

**Responsibilities**:

- Acts as primary contact for the Operations Team (OT) to resolve process control issues and assist during troubleshooting. This includes system queries e.g. reverse engineering and control strategy explanations
- Provides support in response to a system error conditions or failures as the first point of escalation from the plant
- Conducts control system optimization including loop tuning, sequence debugging, and advanced control and optimization (AC&O).
- Participates in the wider PA team rota to provide 24/7 out-of-hours Plant support
- Provide support across the Basics and Utilities Plants on an extended basis during the Site Annual Turnaround
- Performs predictive and preventative maintenance (PPM) and health checks on certain systems.
- Participates in software and hardware upgrades.
- Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews for Plant and Process modifications.
- Completes small projects/MOC work including scope definition, design, configuration and commissioning
- Conduct area alarm reporting and assist in the site alarm reduction program against agreed performance metrics. Includes implementation of smart alarming.
- Provides training and knowledge transfer to Process and Technical teams including both post-project handover and broader automation and control principles
- Interfaces with other disciplines during troubleshooting, projects and RCIs
- Understands and follows all identified Dow Process Automation work processes, both Site and PA
- Conduct all activities within the Site safe systems of work and contribute to Site safety initiatives.

**Qualifications**:

- HND or Degree level qualification in Electronics, Instrumentation, Process Engineering or related field plus process control, manufacturing or other related experience preferred.
- In lieu of degree, 5+ years of demonstrable relevant experience - for example E&I technician, process operator etc.

Preferred Skills

Prime Role Skills & Experience:

- In lieu of direct DCS experience, the willingness to learn and develop in the technology is sought and a comprehensive training program will be utilized to support you in this aspect.
- Knowledge of specific PLC systems is helpful, i.e. Allen-Bradley, Schneider/Modicon, Siemens, Mitsubishi.
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Burner Management Systems (BMS), ideally Triconex is helpful.
- Capable of understanding and developing control configuration using function blocks, ladder logic, and structured text languages.
- Capable of understanding P&IDs, Instrument and Electrical Drawings and Datasheets, Cause and Effect charts.

Advantageous Skills & Experience:

- Understanding of Chemical and Utilities processes, and the typical control schemes used in such processes.
- Understanding of Instrumentation and Electrical equipment typically used on a Chemical manufacturing plant.

Operational Skills:

- Good troubleshooting, communication and people skills are essential.
- Ability to work alone and as part of a multi-discipline team.
