Leaving Care workers & Residential Care workers required in various locations.

You will be responsible to: Service Manager

Essential Qualities
- Minimum of 2 year experience of working in support of children and young people in a residential setting
- Good knowledge of Child Care Law and Children’s Homes Regulations
- Suitably qualified - NVQ Level 3 / Diploma 3 as a minimum
- Desirable Qualities
- Working knowledge of ‘Leaving Care Act’ and Children’s Rights
- Ability to obtain full DBS
- Driving License
- Experience of working with youth groups / young people’s services ( e.g. careers, Connexions, Advisory )
- Experience of working in support of young people with mental health needs
- Experience and background of working in special education ( EBD, ASD )

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Under the direction of the Service Manager, to provide a healthy, stimulating, safe environment for young people. To actively promote and encourage independence, self-sufficiency and life style choices that maximise potential and help attain positive outcomes for young people ‘Leaving Care’.

MAIN DUTIES / AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

All Support Workers based in the service are expected to:

- Engage in the effective delivery of Leaving Care programmes in accordance with Continuum Support policies and procedures.
- Maintain good professional practice and safe boundaries in the home in accordance with National Standards.
- Create a positive environment for each care leaver with particular regard to their safety, health and education.
- Ensure that all young people are supported into further education, training, voluntary or paid work.
- Prepare young people for their own tenancy
- Encourage a healthy lifestyle through supporting physical exercise, providing education on diet and nutrition
- Signpost and work in partnership with support services that specialise in drug, alcohol and substance misuse.
- Educate on matters related to sexual vulnerability, child sexual exploitation and safe relationships - to promote equality and respect.
- Model good citizenship - work on risk reduction related to anti-social behaviours and offending.
- Assist in the formulation of plans for independence - their review and implementation.
- Record significant events and report according to policy and procedure
- and monitor outcomes.
- Ensure that the young people’s views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate to do so.

Support and develop positive relationships with colleagues in the wider Community and in other related services and agencies Whilst this job description accurately reflects the main duties and responsibilities of the post, it is not exhaustive or exclusive and the post holder will be expected to take on any other duties that may reasonably be delegated from time to time.

**Salary**: £18,000.00 to £25,000.00 /year
