Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom Goodwin Development Trust Full time

Job Advert

**Who are we?**

We are a locally rooted, long-established charity, employing over 150 staff, who are dedicated to supporting the residents of Hull by providing a wide range of services including affordable housing, training and development, employment services, youth facilities, personal care and fighting poverty. We would love to have you on board with us to achieve our mission of improving the quality of life.

**Baby Feeding Support Worker**

**37 Hours**

**Temporary (Maternity Cover)**

**£22,777** (FTE)**

It is widely recognised that breastfeeding has numerous health benefits to the child, the mother and to society. The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months, then breastfeeding in combination with appropriately timed solid foods for two years and beyond. Currently in Hull, approximately 60% of women choose to initiate breastfeeding. This number drops over the first six weeks to around 35%. There are many reasons for this, but it has been identified that timely, quality breastfeeding support from a dedicated breastfeeding support worker in combination with the support given by health care professionals will help more families reach their breastfeeding goals. This post will be based 50% in the hospital and 50% in the community.

**The role will include**:

- Ensuring all families have access to breastfeeding support when they need it. This will include hospital and home birthing families.
- Attending home visits when required to support mothers in their own home. This will also include weight checks, risk assessments, plans of care and follow up support.
- Ringing for discharges from hospital and telephone mothers daily to check on support needs, implementing support packages where appropriate, including liaising with other health care workers.
- Being able to complete audits with families and staff alongside the Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative leads.
- Assisting with regular ward inductions for breastfeeding peer support volunteers.
- Attending promotional events and distribute promotional material across the city to Family Hubs and Health Centres.

**To be successful in this role you will**:

- Complete Administrative tasks promptly
- To liaise with other team members and professionals from other agencies on a regular basis.
- To be aware of and work within our safeguarding policies.
- Provide a link between parents/carers and children and the wider Family Hubs and health programmes to ensure that the community’s voice is heard.
- To improve the service through continuous evaluation and review with the involvement of stakeholders.

**What can we offer you?**
- CycleScheme
- Gym Discounts
- TechScheme
- Discounted Tastecard (this provides access to hundreds of discounts)
- Group Life Insurance
- Free Counselling Service
- Length of Service Rewards

Closing date: 30/06/23

Interviews will take place: TBC.
