Overview:
Harrow Council is looking for a Youth Justice Service (YJS) Practitioner to join its multi agency, multi professional team with statutory responsibilities for young people who have offended.

The post holder will work in conjunction with other agencies, assisting with the planning, development and delivery of services for young people who have offended or are at risk of offending. In addition, you will take responsibility for the planning and delivery of individual programmes to prevent young people from becoming involved in crime and for those who have already offended, implementing these programmes with other Youth Justice Service workers.

Although the role is based within an office environment, it will require client home visits and other external meetings across the local authority area, and beyond, including work in courts and the secure estates. In addition, the successful post holder will be required to cover Saturday Court duties (on a duty rota).

About you:
- Knowledge of the Children Act, all Criminal Justice Acts, Crime and Disorder Act 1998, National Standards and other relevant legislation and guidance.
- Knowledge of Court procedures and sentencing options.- An understanding of the key issues related to Social Inclusion and the needs of disaffected young people.- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to young people within the criminal justice system.- Experience of working within a Youth Justice Service or with young people who are disadvantaged.- Experience of analysing complex information to assist in managing risk and vulnerability.
- Experience of evidence based writing.- Experience of writing succinct reports for a wide range of audiences including court.- Level 4 qualification in a relevant discipline (such a Social Work, Criminology, Psychology or Probation) or Professional Certificate in Effective Practice.
- Willingness to cover Saturday Court duties.
