**Fisheries Protection Officer - Coleraine - Permanent**

The Honourable The Irish Society manage Northern Ireland's finest salmon, trout, pike and coarse fishing on the Lower Bann River and tributaries. Are you passionate about the conservation of the river environment ?

**About the role**:

- £11.44 ph
- Generally 4 day week (some flexibility required to respond to call outs on evenings and weekends)
- 7.5 hours per day, 28 - 30 hours per week (will vary depending on needs of the business)
- Full time, permanent position
- Involves weekend work as and when required
- Annual leave accrues as a pro rata of 25 days annual leave per year
- 12 statutory days available

The focus of your role will be to bailiff the Lower Bann River from the Bar Mouth to Toome Bridge sluices, including all tributaries and the
- Moyola,
- Salterstown and
- Ballinderry Rivers

to ensure that fish are only taken in accordance with relevant policies and procedures. **Assisting in ensuring that the Fisheries Act (NI) 1966 and byelaws are complied with, day to day duties will include**:

- Detection of fishery offences
- Checking for compliance with Fisheries Legislation by carrying out land and boat patrols
- Examination of fish and fishing engines
- Collection of evidence and interviewing of person(s) found or suspected of committing an offence
- Provision of statements of evidence, reports or any other documentation required and
- Attending court to give evidence.
- To advise the Secretary of of any illegal activities on the rivers and to keep a meticulous record of all matters that may lead

to a prosecution.
- Patrol and watch the rivers to detect or prevent illegal fishing

**Criteria**:

- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grades A-C
- Knowledge of game and coarse angling
- Experience of risk assessment and taking action to minimise risks
- Experience of the operation and maintenance of boats/outboard engines on a river environment
- Experience of maintain work records and reports
- Experience of fishing
- A strong awareness of health and safety issues
- Possess a full, clean driving licence

**Desirable criteria**:

- Knowledge of the 1966 Fisheries Act (NI)
- Knowledge of first aid
- Knowledge of rivers of the Lower Bann system
- An understanding of the role and powers of a Water Bailiff
