The Post 16 lead role is to supervise SEND officers who work with children and young people and monitor the educational placements of, Section F of the EHCP and its implementation, you will work across colleges, education providers and residential provisions alongside health and social care teams. Your role is to champion the child or young person and work in co-produced and restorative manner.

The Post 16 lead will be responsible for working with the ESFA and alongside other Local Authorities and managing the commissioning of educational provision for young people Post 16. You will be central to the Written Statement of Action pillar of Becoming an Adult, to enhance transition and ensure a smoother entry into adulthood.

Experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families and a good working knowledge of current SEND-related legislation and the SEND Code of Practice will be essential. A key task will be to ensure that for every child and young person, the EHC needs assessment and planning process runs efficiently and statutory deadlines are met but alongside this you will manage a group of allocated children and young people who are at risk of school placement breakdown or not having their needs met.

The post-holder will need to be able to work under pressure, to meet deadlines and to identify priorities when faced with competing demands. Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential, as will the ability to build and maintain strong and positive working relationships with families, schools and a range of other professionals.
