King's Lynn, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

We're looking for Ranger to join our team at Oxburgh Estate.

Working in some of the nation’s most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that our estates are looked after and continue to take our visitors’ breath away.

**What it's like to work here:This vacancy is included in a trial of the ‘Disability Confident’ scheme (level 1).**

Based at the rural Treasure House, Oxburgh Estate - you’ll be working across our beautiful and varied 300-acre portfolio across West Norfolk and East Cambridgeshire. Home to the largest in-house Parkland restoration in the National Trust, our Countryside Team looks after our newly established parkland, remnant fen, wildflower meadows and woodland at Oxburgh with some exciting nature restoration projects on the horizon.

You’ll assist the team at Peckover House in central Wisbech, where we’re helping make areas of the wider estate a great place for the local community to enjoy for free, whilst planning for an exciting future alongside tenants and local organisations. You'll be required to occasionally travel to Peckover once a month, which is generally a 45min-1hr drive from Oxburgh.

What you'll be doing:Reporting to our Area Ranger, with your great passion for our work, you’ll be directly involved with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery. You will work on your own and with other members of staff. You will also work with our band of faithful volunteers and contractors, supervising them on a variety of practical tasks to help us protect and care for the landscape. This will include delivering a wide variety of estate maintenance work such as installing outdoor furniture, tree safety work, boundary maintenance and access work, woodland management, invasive species control and survey work. You will also be directly involved in the next phases of our parkland creation scheme, reinstating 130 acres of former historic parkland and 6 acres of recently cleared plantation woodland to its former zenith.

As a member of the Countryside team you will be a part of the face of the National Trust at a local level, engaging with visitors, tenants and neighbours; making time to talk to them and share your enthusiasm for nature, the outdoors and our countryside both ad-hoc and at specific events. You’ll also work with our Visitor Experience team to share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken.

You’ll also be aiding the wider staff team operationally, keeping the property open and accessible to visitors with some weekend working and duty management responsibilities as well as occasionally lending your specialist skills to tasks that benefit other teams.
