Practice Accounts Assistant

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join a growing, forward thinking Yorkshire based accountancy practice on a permanent, part-time basis. There is also the opportunity for this role to be full-time. With offices in both the Huddersfield and Bradford areas, this is a great time to join a business that prides itself on its staff retention and is very well known within the market. Salary is up to £28,000 (depending on experience) and the benefits package includes a holiday allowance of up to 30 days holiday (including bank holidays), with a free day off for your birthday and a gifted day at Christmas, opportunity to potentially earn bonus and regular recognition awards for the team. Hybrid working is also offered alongside free parking and a cycle to work scheme.
The Accounts Assistant will assist and work directly with the Client Manager and will be involved in all aspects of the business, including preparation of accounts, self-assessments, tax and VAT returns for a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Working with a fun and friendly, long standing finance team, there is also the opportunity for progression in the future with this business.
Key responsibilities for the successful Accounts Assistant will include:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of clients and being main point of contact for all queries
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly or annual bookkeeping and accounts prep work
- Preparing and processing of VAT returns
- Reconciling and allocating accounts and ensuring that all ledgers balance for month end process
- Preparing accounts up to trial balance stage
- Liaising with HMRC and ensuring that all associated deadlines are met
- Supporting with the credit process, reviewing client debtors balances and assisting with cash collection when speaking with clients
- Working closely with and developing relationships with Client Managers and providing excellent customer service at all times
- General ad-hoc duties and supporting the wider finance team
Based within the Huddersfield or Bradford areas, this role is easily commutable from surrounding areas such as Leeds, Mirfield, Halifax, Elland and Brighouse.
To be successful in this Accounts Assistant role you will ideally have/be:
- Previous experience of a busy, varied transactional finance role and will have experience of working within an accountancy practice or you will have an interest in securing a role within a practice environment
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Hands on in approach and will be happy to help in all areas of accounts when needed
- Strong attention to detail and will be able to meet multiple deadlines under strict deadlines
- Computer literate and will ideally have experience of using Sage, Xero or Quickbooks
