**Job summary**:
In June 2019 the Government introduced legally binding net zero emissions target by 2050. 30% of the UK's energy consumption and carbon emissions arise from the way buildings are lit, heated and used and the Government recognises the important contribution that the energy efficiency of buildings has to make in meeting these targets.

The Energy Performance of Buildings Division (EPoB) leads the Department’s work to address the way in which the design and construction of buildings affects climate change, by working to improve their energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. The Division is also responsible for the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations (England and Wales) 2012 which includes the requirement for Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

The objective of the Division is to ensure that the Department supports the delivery of the Government’s climate change objectives, ensuring that actions are ambitious but do not impact negatively on key Departmental objectives, including housing delivery.

**Job description**:
We are looking for a dynamic and committed leader who enjoys visible policy work and thrives in fast-paced environments. You will be working to improve the effectiveness of energy efficiency policy in England and, where applicable, the UK. Our team is responsible for the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, and you will be leading work to evidence, develop and effectively implement new policies designed to improve the energy efficiency of the country’s buildings and support the transition to net zero. The work will need to be delivered to a high standard and at pace to meet ministerial expectations and will require you to work with colleagues from across government and the Department.

This will be a demanding role which provides a mix of policy development activities that may include oversight of a consultation, policy changes to the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, relationship management, critical analysis, policy innovation and drafting of legislative instruments. You will work alongside a G7 responsible for managing the updates to the primary and secondary legislation, which includes contributions from other government departments, and the Devolved Administrations.
