**Job description**:
As a Behavioural Adviser, you will play a supporting role in designing, delivering and supporting projects that tackle market issues. You will support behavioural insights input for multiple cases or projects, as well as assist in building capacity for qualitative, quantitative and experimental research projects.

You will work with internal and external experts including data scientists, technology insight specialists, economists and market researchers, shaping cross-cutting publications and joint analytical/research projects. You will help to establish the role of behavioural insights across the CMA's work, maintaining and communicating a consistent and valuable behavioural offer (e.g. consultancy, capability building, evidence building and research).

**About you**

This is an exciting time to join our team, as we seek to expand our capabilities at the intersection of behavioural science and other relevant fields, including user experience, AI, experimental methods, consumer psychology, technology, behavioural economics, consumer and competition law, data science, consumer policy, and more.

**Responsibilities**
- Support behavioural insights input for multiple CMA cases or projects. These frequently include identifying and analysing consumer and firm behaviours and issues based on empirical evidence and behavioural literature, as well as advising on potential solutions and how to test them.
- Support building capacity for qualitative, quantitative and experimental research projects, including coding experiments, developing stimuli, managing logistics and recruiting participants.
- Contribute to cross cutting publications on key behavioural themes in the CMA working with internal and external experts (e.g. online choice architecture).
- Support the Hub to establish the role of behavioural insights across the CMA’s work, including maintaining and communicating a consistent and valuable behavioural offer (e.g. consultancy, capability building, evidence building and research)
- Work with CMA data scientists, technology insight specialists, economists and market researchers to shape joint analytical / research projects.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of developments in relevant competition and consumer policy, research and empirical evidence.
- Build and maintain relationships with behavioural units in other government departments and regulators (both within the UK and internationally) for knowledge sharing and strategic alignment.
- Contribute towards the Behavioural Hub’s capabilities and operations, including sharing knowledge; contribute towards learning and development initiatives; develop tools; improve ways of working; represent the CMA at public events; and contribute to future recruitment.

**Person specification**:

- Experience of developing and using insights about people’s behaviour to understand problems, develop solutions and achieve organisational objectives (e.g. in a commercial, policy, regulatory, or legal environment).
- Effective communication and influencing skills, including helping to produce high-quality outputs (e.g. presentations, publications) suitable for and to influence non-technical audiences.
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and/or developing stakeholder relationships.
- Experience of one or more of the following:

- conducting and/or using behavioural research to address problems, including for example: online experiments, lab experiments, field trials, natural experiments, behavioural design, A/B testing, user and concept testing, qualitative and quantitative methods.
