The John Muir Trust is recruiting a John Muir Award Officer to help support our ambitious UK-wide engagement initiative. Building on our work with over 1,500 Provider organisations, you will join a team supporting over 25,000 people each year connect with and take action for wild places, through the John Muir Award.

The role reports directly to the Regional Delivery Manager and will collaborate with a team working across the UK to support Award activity. This post will help our engagement work reach people and communities to help inspire them about the benefits of wild places.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Support John Muir Award Providers to effectively deliver the Award, managing all aspects of their involvement including the provision of information, advice, and guidance.
- Work with team to reach key inclusion targets, including 25% of Awards achieved by people experiencing some form of disadvantage.
- Relate John Muir Award activity to relevant Government initiatives in the areas of wellbeing, health, employability, youth work, social action, biodiversity and nature connection.
- Identify and develop communication opportunities for our success stories to engage supporters via reporting and social media channels.
- Contribute to the redesign of the John Muir Award to help ensure it has a bright future in a rapidly changing world.
- Manage enquiries and provide excellent customer service throughout our network.
- Contribute towards projects and help promote the work of the John Muir Trust.

**Person Specification**:
**Essential experience, skills and knowledge**:

- Knowledge of formal and informal education and learning priorities, and supporting local community engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
- Understanding of how these interact within the outdoor and environmental sectors.
- Experience in supporting effective partnerships to generate outcomes.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage own workload remotely to meet targets, and work within a team.
- Good verbal/written communication skills - ability to express yourself well in person, on the phone and in writing.
- Creating inspiring content to showcase success and engage others.
- IT skills - experience in using MS Office package.
- Willingness to travel to events and meet partners.
- Empathy towards others, especially diverse and disadvantages communities.
- A commitment to the John Muir Trust’s aims and objectives.
- Evidence of skills development relevant to the role.

**Desirable experience, skills and knowledge**:

- Understanding of working with volunteers and young people, ideally outdoors.
- Experience of delivering training.
- Co-design and experience in stakeholder consultation.
- Providing content for social media, and other communication and media platforms.

**Other details**:
Type of contract: Full time, Permanent Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working applies)

**Salary**: Band B Pension: 5% employer contribution to a group auto-enrolment pension scheme.

Reporting to: Regional Delivery Manager

Location: Flexible

Holidays: 34 days per year plus 2 wild/sustainable travel days
