Tradewind are recruiting for a school based **Youth Mentor**

This is a role for a **Youth Worker** on a full time basis at a secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Tameside area catering for young people aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional or Mental Health needs (SEMH).
- Hours will be Monday to Friday 8:45am to 3:30pm.
- Pay up to £85/day depending on experience.
- Likely to continue in September.
- Could turn permanent with the school for the right person.

To join us and be successful in this PRU based Youth Mentor role, you will need to:

- Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
- 2 professional references.
- Provide a CV with a full history from your education until present.
- Have the legal right to work in the UK.
- Some experience supporting children or young adults that display challenging behaviours.

The role is working as a Youth Mentor at a secondary alternative provision (PRU) in the Tameside area. You will be supporting young people in small groups or on a 1:1 basis. Your role will be primarily to provide pastoral & behaviour support including managing behaviour in the classroom, corridors and outdoor areas. You will also be required to deliver 1:1 pastoral support which will mean closely aiding young people who have Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) obstacles to learning and providing a listening ear while acting as a trusted and positive role model. You may also need to deal with crisis situations, disclosures, altercations etc.

As a Youth Mentor you will be required to support with vocational activities and sessions that focus on life skills, sports, DT, arts, construction, computing, food tech etc. as well as some support in core academic lessons.

Young people have a range of needs including SEMH and associated difficulties such as ADHD, ODD, autism, attachment disorder and other challenging behaviours. They can often display physical or verbal aggression so as the new Youth Worker will need to have strong behaviour management skills and need to be resilient to challenging situations and not take things personally. You will need to persevere to make progress with each young person. You will need to act as a trusted adult and positive role model while providing consistent boundaries.
