**Job description**

As a youth mentor delivering UKMM’s mentoring/intervention programs you will be expected to:

- Collect & return students to specified address
- Formulate detailed reports for each session
- Formulate & implement bespoke pathways and behavior managements strategies specific to each student
- Liaise with other education professionals, social workers, youth services etc.
- Self manage fuel and expense accounts for both yourself and your student
- Safeguard the health & wellbeing of students

**Youth Mentor Person Specification**

**Essential**

**Desirable**

**Skills**
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and other professionals
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to deescalate and diffuse high tension situations with young people.
- A general level of fitness
- General mountaineering/orienteering
- Basic survival skills i.e. shelter building, fire lighting etc.
- Sports coaching or other relevant qualification.

**Knowledge**
- A clear understanding of the factors which lead to educational disaffection in young people
- Knowledge of the principles involved in giving advice and guidance to young people including the place of confidentiality and sharing information
- Knowledge and understanding of strategies to remove barriers to learning in young people
- A basic understanding of the Pupil Referral unit system.
- A basic understanding of SEND
- A good understanding of common agencies involved with young people Ie Children’s Social Care, Youth Justice Service etc.

**Experience**
- A Minimum of 4 years’ experience in HM Armed forces or UK Emergency services.
- Experience of working with young people in a professional capacity

**Other**
- **Ability to pass an enhanced DBS check**
- **Full UK Driving license and access to own vehicle**

**Salary**: £11.85 per hour
