Do you have an excellent telephone manner, would you enjoy greeting our patients at any of our 6 reception areas, dealing with patients queries and liaising with ward and clinical staff to provide an excellent service for our department?.

We are a dedicated friendly team in Radiology providing a service for a range of diagnostic examinations including MRI,CT and Ultrasound scans.

You would be working on one of our reception areas and also be trained to cover your colleagues on other reception desks during their Annual leave. If you feel you would thrive in this very busy environment we would like to hear from you.

To meet and receive all customers into any of the reception areas covered by the radiology department, including the checking-in of booked patients for their diagnostic examinations, and the safe and tidy keeping of the radiology waiting area. To cover GP plain film booking desk when required.

Reception responsibilities

To meet and receive all customers into the radiology department and advise appropriate radiology staff of their arrival.

To receive and check in on the RIS database all patients scheduled for diagnostic examinations.

To receive and enter examination requests onto the RIS database for all patients referred from the Trust from Out-patients and Ward patients.

To acknowledge all radiological examination requests including postal referrals onto the RIS database and mark with breach date calculated at 6 weeks from date received in the department.

To follow the clerical processes for weekend working as outlined by the department.

To contact the Radiologists if required concerning vetting of weekend request forms.

To liaise with CT, MRI and Ultrasound Radiographers regarding In-patient requests to ensure the work for the weekend day is booked in a timely manner taking into account capacity and porter availability.

To enter the examination appointment time into the RIS diary into the correct clinical room and assign to the correct Radiologist/Radiographer.

To telephone the wards regarding the appointment time for the patient’s examination advising any standard preparation required and ascertaining the mode of travel to the department. To inform the Clinical staff of any patient’s medical issues or infections as advised by the ward.

To acknowledge all radiological examination requests including postal referrals onto the RIS database and mark with breach date calculated at 6 weeks from date received in the department.

To be responsible for the distribution of departmental post.

To generate MRI consent forms from the computer system and send to patients for them to return prior to the allocation of their appointment.

To advise patients who attend through the Booked Admissions Programme of procedure and liaise with the appropriate booking clerk.

To receive all patients referred from the Open Breast Clinics on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays and assess through patient questioning the need for mammography/ultrasound examination on the day or advise of a future appointment.

To outcome completed appointment by inputting diagnoses, correct clinical codes and other clinical and patient related information into the appropriate system as required.

To support patients/carers when they are distressed involving the professional team members when required.

To assist professional staff with patients if required in a clinical environment when necessary. (ie, assisting with changing, chaperoning, etc)

To advise patients/carers of current waits for screening, MRI, CT, general ultrasound and mammography examinations.

To advise patients regarding follow-up appointments.

To liaise with ambulance control for patient return journeys.

To be responsible for the safe and tidy waiting room environment including the upkeep of the departmental tropical fish tank.
