The Role & Key Responsibilities

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will be working as part of the Firearms training team within the Compliance unit at Gatwick Police station. There you will support the design, review and compliance of all training material used to deliver the National Police firearms training curriculum to the Firearms officers and Firearms Command officers of Surrey and Sussex.
The position requires currency as a National Police Firearms Instructor and recent competence as an Armed response officer, in order to effectively ensure that all training material, risk assessments and Health and safety needs of the training curriculum delivery are compliant with the College of Policing Firearms training licence.
The holder needs to be able to fully understand the College of Policing's National Firearms training curriculum and the needs of the Firearms Licencing process as well have proven ability in all areas of IT and data recording of training records as a core part of this role.
The holder will work closely with the Chief and deputy Chief Firearms Instructors (CFI) and be intrinsic in the design, development and quality assurance of all policy and procedures and background support documentation required to ensure compliance with the College of Policing Firearms licencing requirements.
Excellent self-motivation and personal responsibility with planning and management of own workloads, with mínimal supervision is required in order that compliance of training is robustly achieved.
The position will require the holder to have a current Full driving licence, undergo security vetting and a willingness to attend course for role related qualifications not held as required by the CFI.
Skills & Experience
The skills, experience and knowledge required of the post holder are:
- To be or have been a qualified and accredited National Police Firearms Instructor within the last 18 months and have proven experience in the design, planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of Firearms Initial Courses and Specialist Training programmes.
- To have been occupationally competent in the NPFTC Armed Response Vehicle role within the last 18 months
- To hold a current IOSH level 3 certificate in safety management or be willing to achieve this qualification
- Hold a training qualification to level 3 (AET, PTTLS or equivalent)
- Be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues and partnership agencies at all levels, up to Senior Management Level.
- Evidence of excellent self-motivation and personal responsibility with planning and management of own workloads with mínimal supervision.
- Experience of the Chronicle data managing system would be beneficial
