Cornwall, United Kingdom Cornwall Council Full time

**About the Role**

An opportunity has arisen for you to join us as an Attendance Support Officer in Cornwall. The role will discharge the expectations of the Local Authority under the ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’ guidance. The role will involve working with schools to support pupils in overcoming barriers to attendance and ensuring that all children can access the full time education to which they are entitled. The role will also involve being the facilitator of wider support needed by individual families and schools, as well as providing effective communication and advice to schools regarding attendance. This post is 37 hours per week term time only. The post will primarily cover work in the East of Cornwall.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

We are happy to talk about flexible working options such as part-time or compressed hours. More examples of our flexible working opportunities can be found here - flexible working options.

**About you**

You will be an experienced children’s practitioner with an education setting, teaching or social care background with knowledge of statutory education regulations.

You will work to enhance the profile of the Education Welfare Service’s Attendance Support Team within schools and the community and work with diverse agencies towards the continued improvement of school attendance within the county.

If you are innovative, positive, dedicated and not afraid of change or challenge, this position will enable you to champion children’s rights to education, supporting them and their families and working with schools to ensure children are able to access education. You will be passionate about working with children, able to work independently, have access to transport and able to travel within the county.
