Garden Help Cornwall was launched in May 2020 to fill a gap in the market for skilled professional gardeners who can offer more than the traditional lawn cutting service. Much of our work involves taking full responsibility for our customers’ gardens, using our experience and judgement to ensure that every aspect looks its best all year around. Our business has grown strongly and consistently since launch and it is our mission to make Garden Help Cornwall the ‘go-to’ gardening company throughout the county. As part of our first phase of expansion, we are looking to recruit several talented gardeners on a self-employed contractor basis, to be based Penwith and cover
Penzance, Hayle, St. Ives and surrounding areas.

We know that experience can be gained in many different ways, and so it’s not essential that you have previously worked as a professional gardener. What is more important is that you can demonstrate a long-standing interest in gardening, with a relevant skillset and a keenness to learn.

Working initially on a self-employed contractor basis, you will have the flexibility to organise your work according to your preferences and desired earning potential. Contractors choosing to work
35 hours per week in the winter and 42 hours per week in the summer (37 hours per week on average) could expect to earn approximately £28,000 per annum. You will also be able to increase your earnings further through charges for disposal of green waste and sale of garden materials and planting.

**Our story so far**

Garden Help Cornwall was established in May 2020, launched by us - Nick and Lisa - after taking the plunge to change careers and pursue our life-long interest in gardening. We quickly identified an underserved niche in the market for customers that are looking for more than just a quick lawn cut. Unlike a typical garden maintenance company who might be brought in to complete a specific task only, we are often asked to take full responsibility for our customers’ gardens, using our knowledge and judgement to ensure they look their best all year around. Whilst we certainly look after many lawns and hedges, you’ll also find us working on all kinds of other gardening tasks; from seasonal pruning and cutting back, to weeding, planting and providing expert advice and guidance.

Our business has grown rapidly and consistently since it was launched, so much so that we remain fully booked many months ahead in both the summer and winter seasons. Our customer base mainly comprises regular fortnightly and monthly work from predominantly permanent residents, plus a smaller proportion of second home owners and holiday lets. We compliment this regular work with occasional design and build work, from individual elements or planting schemes to entire gardens. Regardless of the customer, garden or job, we always work hard to maintain our strong local reputation for delivering the very best service in a friendly and approachable way.

Having established a solid foundation, we have worked hard to refine our business model so it is tailored to customers’ needs whilst being scalable to the unmet demand that exists within the market. We are delighted to say that we are now in a position to offer a number of exciting opportunities for the right people to join us on our expansion journey

**The role**

We are looking for people who have a passion for all things gardening to join us as gardeners on a self-employed contractor basis. In this role, and after an initial period of training, you will be responsible for maintaining a number of private gardens, typically visiting each garden on a fortnightly or monthly basis. Each day’s work is organised into morning and afternoon slots comprising 3.5 hours each. During the summer months, when daylight allows, there is the option to work three slots per day to increase your earnings.

For the majority of gardens, you will use your judgement and experience to complete the tasks needed to keep the garden looking its best. Typical tasks include mowing, strimming, hedge and topiary trimming, pruning and cutting back, weeding, digging, planting and tidying. This is an all
