Study Assistant/pa

Personal/Study assistant needed to support a woman with chronic illness who is researching a PhD in medical humanities. Penzance area or reasonable travel distance. £11.00 per hour plus holiday and expenses, around 15 hours per week, but more can be available depending on the client's projects. Fun and interesting job for the right person. Would ideally suit a recent student (post-grad experience might help) with a mature attitude to responsibility or a more mature person with a high level of computer competence and recent academic experience looking for flexible part-time work. Someone long-term willing to get to know the job well and stay for 2 years or more would be preferred.

**Other roles are available which could be combined or split with this, including cooking, food shopping, and maintenance/gardening/handy man roles.**

**Useful skills and experience**:

- Familiarity with using Apple Macs.
- Fast, accurate typing, including taking dictation, using dictaphone and dictaphone software, min 60 wpm. Typing long complex documents accurately and at speed will be required.
- Great spelling, grammar and punctuation. Must be able to spell academic words like epistemology and use apostrophes correctly.
- Experience at university level of study/research, including the ability to follow complex academic texts and to search for/research obscure information online including downloading journal articles using library and publisher sites and institutional log-ins.
- Competence with using intranets, internet forums, One Drive, Excel, Word formatting, tables, track changes, PDFs, converting files, setting up document templates and formats, cloud filing/storage etc will be required. Other programs may also be needed as research develops.
- Excellent computer skills with a familiar understanding of different social media and programs e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Skype, WordPress blogs, Outlook, etc. You will need to be able to work to a high level on all these computer tasks without further instruction and find your way around Google to learn new aspects, solve problems or download additional software.
- Be able to understand and follow standard proofreading and editing markup.
- Admin and organisational skills including systematic and efficient paper and digital filing.
- Understand the importance of confidentiality, accurate record keeping and data management standards/laws.
- Full driver’s licence.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including possible travel away from home for up to 5 days at a time.

Other tasks for extra hours are also available, such as:

- Food shopping in a variety of locations to specific instructions.
- Willingness to turn a hand to other tasks including domestic chores, gardening/DIY, errands and outings and personal support.
- Cooking, gardening, household chores
- Help with clients exercising, such as sea swimming or walking
- Some lifting and carrying may be required

COVID-19 considerations:
The employer is currently shielding and will conduct all interviews over the phone or through current support staff. Work likely to be mainly remote plus shopping during shielding, so good attitude to regular contact and communication is essential.
