Hours of work are: average 25.25 hours per week.

The post holder must be prepared to work outside normal office hours, including evenings, weekends, and Public and extra Statutory Holidays for which the appropriate payment will be made or time in lieu granted if relevant.

**Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary**

The post holder will provide customer service support to individual and group patrons of the Leisure Centre, to help ensure visitor comfort, safety and enjoyment. This includes, as required during shift, fitness instruction/fitness classes (where qualified), gym supervision, coaching and swimming instruction (where qualified), lifeguarding and cleaning and upkeep of facilities as required.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Pool Lifeguard Duties and Responsibilities**

**1.** Responsible for undertaking lifeguarding duties, as determined by rota, to professionally recognised standards:
a) Keeping a close watch over the pool, associated features (eg flume, leisure area, health suite and soft play area etc) and the users, exercising the appropriate level of control

b) Communicating effectively with facility users and colleagues

c) Anticipating problems and preventing accidents

d) Intervention to prevent unsafe behaviour

e) Identifying emergencies quickly and taking appropriate action.

f) Carrying out rescues from the water and associated features.

g) Giving immediate First Aid to any casualty

h) Supervising a variety of facilities and water based activities; swimming tuition, fitness training, diving, school activities, aqua aerobics, canoeing, water polo, sub-aqua etc.

i) Assisting with crowd control, including the evacuation of the building in an emergency.

**Education / Qualifications**
- Current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard

Qualification, assessed at 2 metres (or more) **and includes spinal or rescue board or PXB assessment** or equivalent nationally recognised qualifications.
- A current Level 2 ASA Swimming Instructor qualification or STA Swimming Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- A current recognised First Aid at Work Certificate (e.g. British Red Cross, St John’s

Ambulance, Order of Malta)

**Experience**
- 6 months working experience in a customer facing role.
- 6 months working experience of cleaning duties within a public venue or commercial building.
- Previous working experience as a Lifeguard.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Temp to perm
