**About the role**

As our Events and Engagement Officer, you will take on an important new role in our small but far-reaching communications team.

The role requires someone who can bring their experience of supporting events and creating high-quality communications to a wide audience.

A newly created position, will provide the opportunity for you to shape the role and develop key marketing and communications skills across a variety of activities - with the support of an experienced and passionate communications and senior leadership team.

**Who we are looking for**

You will work as part of a small, dynamic team, committed to supporting, progressing and promoting the careers of our members - biomedical scientists and laboratory staff who mostly work in healthcare settings. Through your work on online, hybrid and in-person events, developing our children's charity and supporting our membership communities, you will expand the wider communication team activity and the membership support network of the Institute of Biomedical Science.

You will need to be educated to degree level standard, enjoy contributing to a team and have enthusiasm and drive to help us build on the successes of a healthcare charity that supports young patients and their families.

**Job description**

**Project Management**
- Act as central point of contact for all activity related to children's laboratory tours.
- Manage agreements between the IBMS and external sites providing laboratory tours.
- Promote children's tours to new laboratory sites based in the UK.
- Assist the Head of Communications in creating materials and promotional items and ensuring stock is sent ahead of each laboratory tour.
- Manage stock and resources and order additional items as required.
- Seek sponsorship and fundraising opportunities for the charity's activities.
- Working with the IBMS Communications Team to promote the charity's activities to members and public.

**Public Engagement**
- Source and liaise with suppliers, designers and distributors to produce promotional items for internal and external events.
- Monitor stock levels, regularly ensuring supplies are sufficient and prepared for large events in the calendar i.e. Biomedical Science Day, National Pathology Week and Healthcare Science Week.
- Manage the order of promotional items from members to support their events, create event packs and ensure delivery to members.
- Promote the member’s public engagement activities and achievements and write up news stories from events, including Congress and Biomedical Science Day.
- Source volunteers from membership to attend public engagement activities and promote the role of biomedical science to the public.

**Events**
- Provide administrative and communications support to IBMS region and branches network.
- Support members in UK and overseas to establish and maintain local networks
- Organise and support internal and external events for the IBMS and membership, including sourcing speakers and managing third party suppliers.
- Identify, approach and secure speakers for IBMS events and to support requests for careers and public engagement events.
- Monitor income and expenditure budgets related to events.

**Other**
- Other tasks and duties as requested by the line manager in line with departmental or organisational workload and priorities.
- Commitment to carry out the responsibilities of the post with due regard to IBMS policies and to treat colleagues and other IBMS stakeholders with respect and dignity at all times.
- Occasional travel, including overnight stays, within the UK.
