The Trafford College Group (TCG) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced curriculum manager to lead our well-established Academic department based at our Altrincham campus. This role provides the chance to work with a talented team and lead on all aspects of A Level delivery, alongside facilitating the continued development and success of our Full-Time GCSE programme.

**The Role**:
As Head of Academic Studies, you will lead on ensuring there is a responsive, engaging and high-quality academic provision that provides progression routes to further study and employment. You will be responsible for the achievement of the departmental business plan in relation to curriculum, student recruitment, quality assurance, finance, people and corporate services. You will provide strong leadership and inspire your team to be innovative in all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment.

The postholder will be responsible for leading a large, successful department which delivers both GCSE and A level provision. The department has approximately 500 learners with 170 on FT GCSE and 320 learners on A levels.

**Responsibilities include**:

- **Strategic Planning and Curriculum Development**: Planning and developing the curriculum to support the delivery of the college strategy and providing a responsive offer to ensure relevance and quality
- **Staff Management**: Management of curriculum team including staff recruitment and retention, training and development, setting and monitoring of performance targets
- **Budget Management**: Defining and delivering the departmental budget ensuring appropriate allocation of departmental resources to support academic programmes
- **Student Support and Experience**: Overseeing admission and progression of students within the department and dealing with matters relating to their performance and conduct. Working with other departments to ensure students receive the necessary support services to ensure they succeed academically and personally
- **External Engagement**: Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to ensure that academic programmes are aligned with workforce needs and local economic development.
- **Compliance**: Ensuring that academic programmes comply with college policies and procedures and awarding body regulations
- **Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment**: Overseeing the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning and working in partnership with the Quality team to identify, develop and implement appropriate quality initiatives
- **Student Achievement**: Managing the performance of students on all programmes and courses in the department.

**About you**:
The successful applicant will have previous curriculum leadership experience gained in a middle management or similar level role and will be able to demonstrate experience of leading and supporting quality improvement, and the ability to enhance standards of teaching and learning in the department. You will have the drive and vision to further embed a supportive culture and ethos of high expectations and high performance with both colleagues and learners in the department. You will also be able to develop effective working relationships at all levels within the College and beyond from both an academic and professional service perspective. You should be experienced in curriculum design and development and have an understanding of the current educational landscape.
